Overview

The Microsoft Systems Administrator is a mid-level technical role responsible for administering and maintaining the organization’s Microsoft platforms and supporting infrastructure, including Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Intune, Windows Server, and VMware environments. This position serves as the primary Tier 2 escalation point for the Help Desk and acts as the direct operational link between the Help Desk and the Network/Cybersecurity teams.

Job Responsibilities

  • Audit, clean up, and stabilize existing Microsoft and server environments, ensure identity and data integrity, and recommend improvements to policies, standards, and configurations
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and Intune
  • Manage user accounts, access controls, group policies, and licensing
  • Monitor system performance, security, and availability
  • Perform audits to identify configuration issues, policy gaps, and data inconsistencies
  • Implement approved system changes, updates, and enhancements
  • Maintain documentation for systems, procedures, and configurations
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server environments
  • Support virtualization platforms such as VMware
  • Perform server provisioning, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
  • Troubleshoot server, storage, and system performance issues
  • Serve as a Tier 2 escalation point for complex technical issues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to Microsoft platforms and infrastructure
  • Support Help Desk operations as needed to ensure continuity of service
  • Partner with Network and Cybersecurity teams to implement secure solutions
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior IT staff
  • Recommend improvements to systems, policies, and standards
  • Support onboarding, offboarding, and access management processes
  • Perform other required tasks as assigned.


Job Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred in technology or computer science
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Microsoft-centric IT environment
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 Admin Center, Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Exchange Online, Intune, and Windows Server
  • Experience supporting or administering virtualized environments (e.g., VMware)
  • Prior experience working in a Tier 2 or escalation role
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to evaluate environments, identify issues, and propose practical solutions
  • Prior experience working in a Tier 2 or escalation role

  • Comfortable collaborating across teams and supporting both technical and non-technical users
  • Experience performing tenant audits, identity cleanup, or infrastructure remediation in mixed cloud and on prem environments
  • Familiarity with Conditional Access, device compliance policies, and security baselines, with the ability to apply them pragmatically in existing environments
  • Working experience administering common Windows Server roles and services, including:
    • DNS, DHCP, and DFS
    • File Services and Print Services
    • IIS (Internet Information Services)
    • WSUS (Windows Server Update Services)
  • General familiarity with legacy Microsoft systems and environments, such as older versions of Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, or related platforms, with the ability to support, stabilize, and modernize where appropriate
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS 102, SC 300, MD 102) preferred
  • VMware or server related certifications a plus
  • Experience working collaboratively with cybersecurity or infrastructure teams
  • Occasional travel may be required to support business needs
  • Travel may include locations throughout the United States and Canada
  • Candidates must currently hold a valid passport or be able to obtain one as required for business travel
